And because the TV leads typically play supporting roles in comic books and movies, viewers are well within their rights to expect these shows to contain broader universe tie-ins and set-ups, so as not to be subjected to six hours of learning about the Winter Soldier's dating life woes. Marvel's Disney Plus shows each run approximately six hours, which is more than twice as long as a film. While some have argued that the "Loki" finale was too focused on the larger MCU, I respectfully disagree. Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in "Loki" on Disney Plus. Others point to the fact that star Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is the best actor of the group that got to headline Marvel's first batch of shows (fact check: true), while some point to the show's clever writing, production quality and strong supporting performances from Owen Wilson (Mobius) and Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie).įrom my vantage point, "Loki" far outshines "WandaVision" and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" for the very simple reason that it was the only one that successfully told an interesting character-driven story while also advancing the story of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and setting up future installments - with the latter task being, in my humble opinion, a must for these Disney Plus shows. Many point to the fact that "Loki" - which serves as a spinoff sequel to a very brief scene in "Avengers: Endgame" when a time-traveled version of the antihero god of mischief "escapes" the universe's main timeline - has the most complex and layered plot (to say the least) of any of Marvel's Disney Plus shows, a group that also includes "WandaVision" and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."
